Want to register a youth centre or other related establishment? 11th January 2010

We have recently had a request to add youth centres to our school closures system. We think this is a good idea and simply requires you to Create a New School. We will change the label from 'school' to something more appropriate, such as 'youth centre' or 'workshop' etc.

Please contact us to suggest any other features or extensions to the service.

Another night of snow causes problems for the third school week in a row. 11th January 2010

More and more schools are closed with some LAs closing all schools in the area and we had already sent 10,000 emails by 9 o'clock this morning. And today marks the first day of no false closures - our method of crowd sourcing to close schools is working well - thanks again to all contributors and school representatives.

The BBC has Reported here that a number of criticisms have been levelled at head teachers for closing schools too readily. Parents have taken time off work to look after children and this is proving costly for business. We think it's proof that working remotely, a service we offer to our Primary Schools, is a great idea. Epic milestone reached for My School Closures. 7th January 2010

Today saw us send over 50,000 emails announcing school closures to parents and teachers. Over the past week we have seen a steady rise in people signing-up for our free service and we would like to thank everyone for helping out!

Have you noticed the weather? Today has not been the return that most were expecting (and many were hoping for). We have seen closures across the UK, from Cornwall to East Anglia, Yorkshire to Aberdeenshire; thanks once again to all your help and contributions, we couldn't do it without you!

Beta version 2 goes live. 25th November 2009

Our blog was a little quiet for 2009 as we were busy putting the finishing touches to the second Beta release of My School Closures, which is now released. The service is available world-wide and we'd like to thank those schools that have signed up and helped with testing.

School Closure status will be available via API and RSS feeds automatically update. Any sites publishing the data will be automatically updated.

Verification

Once a school closure has been verified, we contact parents via sms and email with an update.
